Our concerts include classical masterpieces by Chopin and Rachmaninov; songs from the Musicals Hamilton and the Greatest Showman; Jazz in the form of Misty or Take Five as well as current music by artists such as Imagine Dragons and Ed Sheeran. The Paul Michael School of Music recruits a diverse team of talented teachers. All of our faculty teach their students how to read music independently, perform with proper technique, play with musicality and understand music theory, but further their diverse backgrounds allow them to impart specialized knowledge in areas such as Jazz Improvisation, Song-Writing, Opera, Pop Music and more. Our teachers are personable, patient and promote a positive learning atmosphere so that you or your child have the best experience possible with music.
All of our teachers have or are university trained musicians, most with advanced degrees. To join the Paul Michael School of Music they must pass a rigorous and extensive interview process, as well as complete our two week teacher training program. Teachers attend monthly continued education workshops to enhance their skills and provide you with the latest in pedagogy. Our commitment to selecting only the most qualified and dedicated candidates ensures that you are receiving the highest quality of instruction.
Before beginning training, our teachers are required to pass a thorough criminal background check that includes county, state and national databases and registries as well as screening done by the NJ State and Pennsylvania State Police
Our teaching philosophy is based on three principles: the first being that one size does not fit all - children have unique personalities and learning styles that will match a diversity of approaches; the second, that students are much more engaged and eager to practice when they are interested in the music they are learning; and most importantly, that children learn most effectively when having fun.
